Open Available Training

Available Training sits under Training in the menu. It lists every course you can take: the ones your organization hosts and the ones from TruStar Safety Academy.

Asked of you, at the top, holds the courses somebody assigned to you and the ones your position or project requires. A due date shows when one was set. Anything else your organization has published is listed below it.

  1. 1
    Open the course

Press Start. The course opens inside Connect. Full screen gives it the whole display.

  2. 2
    Work through it

Your place is saved as you go, so you can close it and resume later from the same spot. In an Academy course the arrow keys move between screens and the space bar pauses the narration. On a phone or tablet, press Start the course if it asks, so the narration can play.

  3. 3
    Finish it

When the course reports that you finished (or passed, if it has a test), it is recorded straight away. A PDF, a link or a video hosted elsewhere finishes when you confirm you completed and understood it. An uploaded video finishes once you have watched it through.

It goes on your record by itself

A finished course adds an approved certificate to your training profile, with its expiry date, and fills the matching cell on the training matrix. Nobody has to upload anything.

Your certificate

Every course you finish in Connect comes with a certificate you can download, print or send. When you pass, a Download certificate button appears above the course straight away, and the certificate is emailed to you as a PDF. You can download it again any time: press Certificate on the record in your training profile.

Stuck in a course? Open the course’s menu (the three lines at the top right) and choose Help. It opens a support ticket in Connect with the course already named, so we know where you were.

It shows your name, the course, the date you finished, when it expires, your score if the course has a test, and a certificate ID. Its QR code opens your One Card, so anyone who scans it sees whether your training is current today.

Page two of the certificate is a wallet card. Print the PDF at actual size (100%, not fit to page), cut along the corner marks, fold on the dotted line and laminate it if you like. The back carries the same QR code and the full certificate ID.

Anyone can check a certificate without signing in at connect.trustarsafety.com/verify. Enter the first eight characters of the certificate ID (the No. on the wallet card) and the holder’s last name, and it shows whether the certificate is valid or expired.

Taking the course again when it is due gives you a new certificate and a new expiry date.

If the course has a passing score, a lower score is not recorded as complete. You can go through it again.

TruStar Safety Academy

The Academy is TruStar’s own library of Canadian safety courses. As a TruStar Connect subscriber you save 25% on every course. Buy one for yourself from its card, or ask your owner or administrator for a course code.

If your employer gave you a code, enter it under Have a course code. The course appears in your list, and there is nothing to pay.

If you are not with a company

You can take Academy courses without belonging to an organization. You pay the regular price, and a finished course gives you a TruStar Safety Academy certificate on your profile. When you join a company on TruStar Connect, the certificate goes with you and counts toward their course for the same credential, such as WHMIS.

You do not need an account to buy one. Each course has its own page in the Academy catalogue at connect.trustarsafety.com/academy, where you can search by name or topic or browse by category: enter your name and email, pay, and we email you when it is ready. If that email is new to us, a second email has the link to set your password. If you already have an account, use its email and the course is added to it.
