Dropped Objects Awareness

Know why a small tool becomes deadly with height, find what could fall before work starts, stop it falling with barriers, tethers and containers, set up a drop zone big enough for a ricochet, inspect tools and fixtures aloft, and know what to do when something drops, in about 55 minutes.

  • 55 min
  • Online, on a phone or a computer
  • Professionally narrated
  • Certificate, valid 36 months
Dropped Objects Awareness is for everyone who works at height or below it, and for the crew leads and supervisors who plan that work. It shows how hard a dropped object hits and what a hard hat can and can't do about it, the difference between static and dynamic drops, and where dropped objects come from, including fixtures aloft and what loads and booms knock loose. It covers preventing drops in the order of the hierarchy: taking less up, toe boards, screens and nets, tethering tools to ANSI/ISEA 121 with every part rated for the tool, closed bags and buckets, and drop zones sized for a ricochet, with one person controlling entry and nobody under a suspended load. It also covers inspecting tools, tethers and fixed equipment, counting tools up and down, and what to do when something drops. You sort static drops from dynamic ones, find six dropped object problems on a steel work platform, match tools to the right way to secure them, find answers in a filled-in dropped object assessment, decide which tethering gear is fit to use, make the calls when a wrench drops during a plant turnaround, check your understanding after each module, and finish with a 20-question exam. Pass with 80% and your certificate is issued right away, valid for 36 months. Every screen is narrated, with captions and a full transcript. This course provides general awareness training in preventing dropped objects. It does not replace your employer's procedures, your site's orientation, or practical training on the equipment you use.
