TruStar Safety

Release Notes

What is new in TruStar Connect, newest first.

v2.549September 4, 2026

Settings is now a hub

An overview that says what needs attention, and seven areas instead of one long scroll.

Changed
  • Settings opens on an Overview: one tile per area with its key numbers, and a row of flags for anything that needs you — invitations about to expire, an item type with no approver, two-step sign-in still optional, an HR sync that failed, seats nearly used up.
  • Everything you could change before is still there, sorted into seven areas: Organization, People & HR, Training, Structure, Workflows, Fleet, and Reports & language. On a computer they sit in a rail on the left; on a phone they are a row of chips.
  • Each area has its own address, so a link from Tru, a guide or an email can open exactly the right one. Tru knows every area and what lives in it: ask where to change the report language or connect BambooHR and it takes you straight there, and the help button on each area opens the guide for that area.
Added
  • Scheduled reports now have a screen. Under Reports & language you can see all five digests side by side — the safety review, the observations digest, and the three insight reports — with how often each goes out, on which day, to whom, and when it last went.
  • People & HR lists your pending invitations with their expiry dates, alongside seats used against your plan.
v2.548September 4, 2026

Import your people from BambooHR, and keep them in step

Connect BambooHR once; new hires are invited and terminated employees deactivated every night.

Added
  • Connect BambooHR under Settings → HR system with your subdomain and an API key, then import everyone with a preview first: you see exactly who would be invited, linked, skipped or kept out by your seat limit, and can untick anyone before anything happens.
  • Every night the two stay in step: a new hire in BambooHR gets an invitation automatically, an employee marked terminated is deactivated, a rehire is reactivated, and names, job titles, hire dates, phone numbers and managers follow the HR record.
  • The sync only ever touches people it brought in. Someone you added by hand is never deactivated by it, someone you switched off by hand stays off, and roles, positions and projects are never changed by it — everyone imported starts as a worker.
  • Sync history on the same card shows every run and any problem, and owners are emailed if a night’s run fails or new employees could not be invited for lack of seats.
v2.547September 4, 2026

Ask Tru about your own data

Tru can now read your organization’s records and answer with real numbers.

Added
  • Tru can now answer questions about your organization’s own records — investigations, observations, forms and inspections, corrective actions, certifications and training, equipment and defects, toolbox talks, daily reports, fleet trips and roadside inspections, projects, sites, clients and your team roster.
  • Ask for specifics ("what happened at the north site in June"), counts ("how many corrective actions are overdue"), breakdowns ("observations by severity"), or trends ("are form submissions going up this quarter") — in the chat or in a voice conversation.
  • Tru sees exactly what you see and nothing more: every answer is limited to what your own role already lets you open, and numbers come from your live data, never from a guess.
v2.546September 3, 2026

Interrupt Tru by talking

Added
  • In a voice conversation you can now cut in the natural way: just start talking. Tru stops mid-sentence, listens, and answers what you actually asked. Tapping the bar still works too.
  • Tru tells its own voice coming back through the speaker apart from yours, so speaking over it does not put its words in your message. If you interrupt by repeating Tru’s exact words it may not hear you — rephrase, or tap.
v2.545September 3, 2026

Tru starts talking sooner

Improved
  • In a voice conversation, Tru now speaks each paragraph as it appears instead of waiting for the whole answer, and the answer itself lands on screen faster — the voice starts a moment after the first words do.
  • Tapping to interrupt now silences the whole answer, including the parts still arriving. Ask your next question and the voice comes back.
Fixed
  • In a voice conversation, the microphone could catch the tail end of Tru’s own voice through the speaker and send it back as if you had said it. The microphone now waits out the echo before listening, and anything half-heard when it closes is discarded instead of sent.
v2.544September 3, 2026

Talk with Tru out loud

Tru can read its replies, and hold a whole conversation by voice.

Added
  • A voice conversation with Tru: press the sound-wave button beside the microphone, ask your question out loud, and Tru answers out loud. Pause and it sends; when Tru finishes talking it listens again, so your hands never touch the screen. Tap while Tru is talking to cut in, and everything said lands in the written conversation like any other chat.
  • A small speaker button under each of Tru’s replies reads that answer out loud on its own — useful when you want just one answer spoken. Press it again to stop.
  • The voice reads English and French alike, following the language of the reply. If you do not see these buttons, the voice is not set up on your deployment — everything else about the chat works exactly the same.
v2.543September 3, 2026

Buttons no longer look stuck after you tap them

Fixed
  • On a phone or tablet, a button you tapped kept the highlight it is only meant to show under a mouse pointer, so it could go on looking active long after you had moved on — and a switch could look switched on when it was off. Highlights now appear only where there is a pointer to hover with.
v2.542September 2, 2026

No more "something went wrong" after an update

Fixed
  • If we shipped an update while you had the app open, the next page you opened could fail with a technical error and Try again did nothing. The app now picks up the new version by itself and carries on.
v2.541September 2, 2026

Tru can offer help before you ask

On our public website only, and at most once per visit.

Added
  • On our public website, Tru may offer help unprompted — after a while on the pricing page, or across several comparison pages. It appears as one line above the chat button that you can dismiss, and it never opens the window over what you are reading.
  • It happens at most once per visit, never if you are already in a conversation, and never on the Terms, Privacy, release notes or Knowledge Base pages. The privacy policy says so.
v2.539September 2, 2026

Privacy policy: what our website records about a visit

Our public website now sets a cookie so we can offer live help while you are reading. Section 7 of the privacy policy says exactly what that does.

Changed
  • The privacy policy has a new section covering the website chat: the single cookie we set when you arrive, that we can see the page you are reading right now, and that we keep no history of the pages you visit.
  • What is recorded is deleted automatically after thirty minutes without activity. We do not collect your IP address, device details or a fingerprint for this, and a referring website is recorded as its address only — never a full link or anything typed into a search engine.
  • If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal, no cookie is set and nothing is recorded.
v2.538September 2, 2026

Prices no longer break in half on a phone

Fixed
  • On the comparison pages, the cost worked example wrapped long figures mid-number on a phone — US$4,350+ read as US$4,35 above 0+. The figure now stays on one line and the unit moves below it.
v2.537September 2, 2026

Fleet is on the platform list

Fixed
  • Fleet was missing from the module list on the home page, the platform page and the menu — so anyone asking what the platform does, including Tru, got an answer with no trucking in it.
  • It is now listed with the rest: carrier profile and NSC, CVOR, driver files, trip inspections, the maintenance program, hours of service, IFTA, roadside inspections, the live map and the Geotab connection.
  • Tru can answer in detail about NSC, CVOR, hours of service, IFTA and telematics rather than naming Fleet and stopping.
v2.536September 2, 2026

Chat fixes on the website

Fixed
  • The chat button was missing from the home page. It is there now, the same as on every other page of the website.
  • On a phone, the website’s own header sat on top of the chat panel, hiding its close button and the line saying who was online. The panel now opens above the site navigation.
v2.535September 2, 2026

Tru is on the website too

Anyone visiting our public site can now ask Tru about the platform, or talk to a person.

Added
  • The chat panel is now on every page of our public website. Visitors can ask what the platform does, what it costs and how it compares, and get taken to the right page — useful when you are showing TruStar Connect to somebody who does not have a login yet.
  • Visitors are asked for a first name when they start, and for an email only if they want the conversation sent to them. Nothing else is collected.
  • They can ask for a live person the same way you can, and the request arrives in our chat console. If nobody is on chat, they are offered a demo booking instead.
  • On the website Tru only ever links to public pages, and it cannot see anything about any organization — nobody is signed in there.
  • The panel opens with questions that make sense where you are: what a screen is for inside the app, what the platform costs on the website.
v2.534September 2, 2026

A guide to connecting Geotab

Added
  • A Knowledge Base guide for Fleet → Telematics that walks through connecting Geotab: the API user to create, where to find your server and database, testing the connection, matching your vehicles and drivers, and what starts working once it is done.
v2.533September 2, 2026

Unread replies show a count

Changed
  • When somebody from TruStar replies while your chat is closed, the Tru button now shows the same red count badge My Tasks uses, so you can see how many replies are waiting.
v2.532September 2, 2026

A quieter chat button

Changed
  • The button that opens Tru is no longer bright red. It is a dark circle with the star in it, the same size as the close button it turns into, so it sits calmly on the page instead of competing with your work.
  • It grows slightly when you hover over it, and the chat window now opens smoothly out of the button rather than appearing beside it.
v2.531September 2, 2026

A squarer tail on the chat button

Changed
  • The tail on the Tru chat button is now straight-edged instead of curved, so it matches the squared-off shape of the bubble.
v2.530September 2, 2026

A chat button you can actually see

Changed
  • The button that opens Tru is bigger and now looks like a raised, glossy chat bubble with a shadow, so it stands out on a phone instead of disappearing among the other icons.
  • It lifts when you hover over it and presses in when you tap it.
v2.529September 2, 2026

The chat button looks like a chat button

Fixed
  • The star that opens Tru sat small inside a plain circle, which was hard to make out and gave no clue what it opened. It is now a star inside a speech bubble, and the star beside each reply is larger too.
v2.528September 2, 2026

Tru is the TruStar star now

The assistant is part of the product rather than a character in it.

Changed
  • Tru no longer has a face. The TruStar star stands for it — on the button that opens the chat, in the header, and beside every reply — the same way a phone’s assistant has no avatar.
  • Tru also stops describing itself. Ask it what it is and you get an answer about the app rather than a personality.
v2.527September 2, 2026

The typing dots, and a lot of things that were quietly missing

Fixed
  • Tru’s typing dots were invisible — they were being drawn with a colour that did not exist, so the bubble appeared empty while it waited. They are there now, between paragraphs and while an answer is being written.
  • Hover states on buttons across the app and the website did nothing at all, for the same reason. Forty-two more places had a colour, a border or a divider that never appeared.
v2.526September 2, 2026

The chat has a rhythm now

Changed
  • The typing dots always show for a moment before Tru answers, even when the answer is instant, and the pause between paragraphs is now long enough to read the one before it.
  • Messages ease into place with a visible lift instead of a flicker, a run of paragraphs shares one avatar and is signed off once at the end, and only the last bubble of a run carries the tail.
Fixed
  • The arrival tone now plays once per reply rather than once per paragraph.
v2.525September 2, 2026

Tru answers a paragraph at a time

Changed
  • Tru now replies the way a person types: a complete paragraph appears, then the dots come back while the next one is written. Nothing half-finished is ever on screen, and a long answer no longer arrives as one wall of text after a long silence.
v2.524September 2, 2026

Tru shows it is thinking, then answers in one piece

Changed
  • Tru’s replies used to appear a few words at a time, which read as disjointed and meant the typing dots flashed past before you could see them. The dots now stay up for the whole answer — with a line saying what Tru is doing, if it is looking something up — and the reply arrives complete.
v2.523September 2, 2026

The chat moves and sounds like a chat

Added
  • Messages now ease into place as they arrive, from the side they came from, and the typing dots have a softer rhythm.
  • A quiet tone when a reply lands and a softer one when you send — enough to notice while you are looking at something else, not enough to be a notification. The speaker button in the chat header turns them off, and your choice is remembered.
v2.522September 2, 2026

A green dot on Tru, and rings that are the right colour

Fixed
  • The line under Tru’s name sat slightly right of the name itself. It now lines up, and a green dot on the avatar says the assistant is there to talk to.
  • Rings around avatars and badges in a few places were drawn in a blue that appears nowhere else in the app. They now use the colour they were meant to.
v2.521September 2, 2026

Tru has a new look

Changed
  • A new avatar for Tru, in the chat header and beside every reply.
v2.520September 2, 2026

Chats close themselves when they go quiet

A conversation ends after 15 minutes of silence, with two minutes’ warning so you can keep it going.

Added
  • A chat now closes after 15 minutes with nothing happening. Two minutes before that you get a countdown and a Keep it open button — and simply typing keeps it open too.
  • Closed conversations stay in Messages and can still be read; they just cannot be replied to. Start a new chat instead, so your question arrives with its own context rather than under one from last week.
Changed
  • A conversation waiting for a person never closes itself. If you have asked for somebody and nobody has answered yet, the silence is ours and the request stays open.
v2.519September 2, 2026

Photos, voice, and seeing when somebody is typing

Send a screenshot to Tru and it will look at it. Talk instead of typing. See when a person is writing back.

Added
  • Attach photos and PDFs to a chat, up to 10 MB each. Tru reads images and PDFs you send — a screenshot of an error or a photo of a damaged unit is something it can answer about, not just pass along.
  • A microphone in the chat box: talk instead of typing, and the words appear as you speak. Uses your browser’s own dictation, the same as the mic key on your keyboard.
  • Typing dots, both ways. You see when somebody from TruStar is writing a reply, and they see when you are.
  • People from TruStar can send you photos and PDFs back — a marked-up screenshot showing you where to press.
v2.518September 2, 2026

Tru gets Home, Messages, Help and News

The help panel is now four places instead of one, and your conversations are kept.

Added
  • Messages: every conversation from the last 30 days, with the last thing said and a dot on anything you have not read. Open an old one to read it or carry it on.
  • New chat: start a fresh conversation whenever you want, so an unrelated question does not land in the middle of last week’s.
  • Help: search all 55 guides and read them inside the panel, without leaving the screen you are on.
  • News: what shipped recently, newest first, so you can see what changed without going looking.
Changed
  • Opening Tru now lands on Home rather than dropping you into your last conversation — unless somebody from TruStar is in it, in which case it opens straight there.
v2.517September 1, 2026

The chat panel stays put while you type

Fixed
  • On a tablet or a touchscreen laptop, starting to type would jump the chat panel up the screen by a different amount each time. It now stays in the bottom right corner, clearing the on-screen keyboard by the same margin every time.
v2.515September 1, 2026

Asking for a person works again after one has already answered

Fixed
  • Once someone from TruStar had replied to a chat, the option to reach a person disappeared from that conversation for good — even days later. The chat now shows who you are talking to, and hands itself back to Tru after ten quiet minutes so you can ask again.
  • Tru used to keep answering while a real person was typing a reply to the same question. It now stays out of the way until the conversation comes back to it.
Added
  • A "Back to Tru" button while you are talking to a person, for when you would rather not wait.
v2.514September 1, 2026

Live chat that is actually live

Replies from a person now arrive on their own, the panel remembers your conversation, and you can see who is on duty.

Fixed
  • A reply from a real person only appeared after you reloaded the page. Messages now arrive on their own, within a couple of seconds, on a phone as well as a desktop.
  • Reloading the page used to empty the chat panel while your conversation carried on without you. Opening Tru now brings the conversation back where you left it.
Added
  • The chat header shows who from TruStar is online right now, with their name and photo, so asking for a person is asking a person.
  • A reply that arrives while the chat is closed puts a badge on the Tru button, and the person’s name now appears on their messages.
v2.513September 1, 2026

Tru knows which screen you are actually on

Fixed
  • After talking about one part of the app, Tru kept thinking you were still there. Move to another screen mid-conversation — including when Tru takes you somewhere — and asking "what is this screen for" now answers about where you actually are.
v2.511September 1, 2026

Tru answers questions about the whole app

Fixed
  • Questions that needed Tru to look something up came back as an error, while simpler ones worked. Fixed.
  • Tru now finds the right guide far more often. Asking how investigations work used to return the article about permits, because common words like "work" counted as heavily as the words that actually matter.
  • Asking what a screen is for now always includes that screen’s own guide.
Changed
  • Tru answers questions about any part of the app from wherever you happen to be. Standing on Corrective Actions and asking how Fleet works gets you a real answer, not a nudge back to where you were.
v2.510September 1, 2026

Tru works, and can email you the conversation

Fixed
  • Tru answered every question with an error. A lookup for your company name was written in a way the database refused. It is fixed, and a check now catches that whole class of mistake before it can ship again.
Added
  • At the end of a chat you can have the whole conversation emailed to yourself, so the steps Tru gave you are there later when you are back at the truck.
Changed
  • On a phone, Tru now opens from a small button at the top right of the header, where the old help button was, instead of floating over the bottom of the screen. On a computer it still sits in the bottom right corner.
v2.509September 1, 2026

Ask Tru for a person

Added
  • If Tru cannot help, you can now ask to talk to a real person. When someone from our team is online, they join the same chat and answer live.
  • When nobody is online, Tru turns the conversation into a support request with everything you already said attached, so you do not have to explain it twice. We reply by email.
v2.508September 1, 2026

Meet Tru, your AI assistant

Added
  • Tru is the new assistant in the red circle at the bottom right of every screen. Ask a question in plain language and Tru answers from all 55 knowledge base guides.
  • Tru can take you straight to the right screen instead of describing where it is, and can open a form with what you told it already filled in. You review and save it yourself — Tru never saves anything for you.
  • Tru only sees what you can see. It cannot show you a screen or a record your role does not already give you.
Changed
  • The question-mark help button has been replaced by Tru. The guide for the screen you are on is still one tap away, on the assistant panel.
v2.507August 31, 2026

QR codes work for the person scanning them

Fixed
  • Scanning the QR code on a worker’s TruStar One card asked the person scanning it to log in. It now opens the card straight away, which is the whole point of the code.
  • The same applied to the permit monitor page, the external permit signing link, and the subcontractor portal. All of them now open without an account.
