Working offline

How TruStar Connect works with no connection, what is available, and how captured work uploads when you reconnect.

4 min read·For:OwnerAdministratorManagerSupervisorWorkerViewer

TruStar Connect is built for field work where signal is poor or absent. Open the app once while you have a connection, and the core of it is saved to your device so it keeps working offline. Anything you capture while offline is stored on the device and uploads on its own once you reconnect.

What works offline

  • The Dashboard, with your saved attention items, tasks, and recent investigations.
  • My Tasks: everything assigned to you, including corrective actions, document, hazard, and training tasks.
  • The Forms list, Submit a Form, and filling and submitting any individual form or inspection.
  • The Observations list and logging a new observation, with a photo.
  • The Investigations list, and recording a new investigation with a scene photo.
  • Corrective actions: the full list with search and filtering, and closing one out with a proof photo.
  • Effectiveness reviews: the full list, and marking a review complete with its outcome and check answers.
  • Toolbox talks: the library and history, and delivering a talk with attendance and signatures.
  • The Hazard Register, Training Matrix, Equipment register, and documents you have saved to the device.
Open it once while connected

The app saves these sections the first time you open it online, refreshing quietly in the background. A good habit for crews is to open TruStar Connect on wifi before heading to a remote site.

Capturing work with no signal

  • Fill in forms and inspections, log observations, record a new investigation, close out a corrective action, complete an effectiveness review, and deliver a toolbox talk, all offline.
  • Capture signatures on a toolbox talk in the field. They save on the device and upload with the talk on reconnect.
  • Attach photos to a capture. They are stored on the device with the rest of the capture. Toolbox talk photos are the one exception and need a connection.
  • Each capture shows a Saved on this device confirmation so you know nothing is lost.

Recording an investigation offline

  1. 1
    Open New Investigation

Tap New Investigation from the dashboard or the Investigations list. The form opens even with no connection.

  2. 2
    Record the incident

Enter the title, time, project, classification, and a brief description, and optionally take a scene photo. This is step 1, the incident details.

  3. 3
    Save it on the device

Tap Continue to capture. With no connection it saves on the device and confirms it is stored, so you do not lose the details or the photo.

  4. 4
    Reconnect to continue

Once you are back online it uploads automatically and the photo becomes the first scene photo. Open the investigation to continue to step 2, capturing documents and statements.

How uploads happen

  • Captured work waits in a queue on the device and uploads automatically when a connection returns. You do not have to do anything.
  • Reviewing, approving, and opening individual records still need a connection.
  • After an app update, your saved offline pages and data refresh on their own, with no need to clear anything.
Install it for the best offline experience

Add TruStar Connect to your home screen to run it like an app. A clear banner shows whenever you are offline, so you always know which mode you are in.
