Drug and Alcohol Awareness for Supervisors gives forepersons, supervisors and managers what they need when fitness for duty is in question. It covers the work rule and the Canadian Model for Providing a Safe Workplace, version 6.1; what alcohol, cannabis, opioids, stimulants and other drugs do, the signs of each and how long they stay in the body; why a worker can still be over the limit at the start of a morning shift; overdose and naloxone; the five kinds of testing permitted under the Canadian Model, urine, oral fluid and breath, and how a sample travels from collection to the medical review officer; what counts as reasonable cause; and the steps for a reasonable cause or post-incident test, from removing the worker from safety-sensitive work and the private conversation to the manager's confirmation, safe transport, refusals and the report. It then covers results, the substance abuse expert, return to work and follow-up agreements, the duty to accommodate, and the rules that differ between Canadian jurisdictions. You decide who is fit, who comes off the work and who you talk to first, find the signs at a 6:30 toolbox talk, make the calls in a crew truck at 5:45 a.m., match signs to the drugs most likely behind them, choose the right test for each situation, sort a reasonable cause report into fact and opinion, find answers in a real-looking policy and a completed reasonable cause form, and follow one worker from a Monday morning on a well site through to his return. You check your understanding after each module and finish with a 20-question exam. Pass with 80% and your certificate is issued right away, valid for 36 months. Every screen is narrated, with captions and a full transcript. This course provides awareness training in drug and alcohol impairment, reasonable cause and testing. It does not replace your employer's alcohol and drug policy or the training for your own site and role.
